Utah real estate professional pleads guilty to felony tax evasion charges.

A
Utah real estate agent, Micah Pearson, has pleaded guilty to felony tax evasion. According to the Utah State Tax Commission, Pearson failed to file state income tax returns for several years, despite being audited multiple times since 2007. As part of a plea agreement, he must pay $94,898 in restitution.

The charges stem from a lengthy history of non-compliance with tax laws. The Tax Commission sent Pearson 14 audit letters and 19 collection letters over the years, filed seven tax liens, and received only one garnishment payment. Despite speaking with employees multiple times, Pearson never made voluntary payments towards his tax balances or followed through on agreements to address his back taxes.

Pearson was criminally charged with tax evasion and failure to file returns for each year from 2019 to 2021. He pleaded guilty to the tax evasion charge, agreeing to fully repay all back taxes, penalties, and interests. His sentencing is scheduled for September 5, 2025.
