he Richmond Times-Dispatch is seeking an ambitious housing/real estate reporter to cover the local market's trends, developments, and affordability issues. Richmond was recently ranked as one of the top housing markets for 2025 by Realtor.com, making this a prime opportunity for a talented journalist to break news and tell compelling stories.
As a key member of our team, you'll track major industry trends, interview local leaders and companies, analyze data, and consult with experts. Your work will include breaking news pieces as well as in-depth features on how housing issues affect individuals in the region. We're looking for a self-motivated reporter who can distill national trends into localized stories, from profiles of the local rental market to long-form investigative projects.
The Times-Dispatch is a 2021 Pulitzer Prize winner with a rich history dating back to 1850. We value storytelling that resonates and holds those in power accountable. Our ideal candidate will have:
* A proven track record of writing daily and enterprise stories on business topics
* Strong interviewing, writing, and research skills
* The ability to consistently break news and meet deadlines
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic
* Experience with online content management systems and video production is a plus
Requirements include a bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or a related field, as well as two years of experience in business journalism or trade publication writing. The successful candidate will be based in our Richmond, Virginia/Hanover County office and will work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
