A
1950s-style diner on Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg has been sold for $12.5 million, marking the end of an era for the iconic corner lot. The property, which has hosted a variety of businesses over the years including a classic railcar diner, a Mexican eatery, and a Chanel pop-up, is set to be replaced by a six-story mixed-use building.

The new development will feature 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 28 apartments above. Plans are underway to preserve the vintage prefab structure, which has dominated the site since the 1950s, with details on its relocation expected to be announced in about a month.

Sandy Stillman, the former owner of the property, operated the diner Relish at the site from the late '90s to around 2010 and held onto the property through its many transformations. She praised the new buyers for their commitment to preserving the historic structure, calling them "above and beyond spiritual beauty, talent and desire to help save this shiny diner."

The development is being led by Williamsburg-based developer Yoel Schwimmer's OVV LLC, which shares an address with the new owner of the property. The final sale was brokered by TerraCRG, a commercial real estate brokerage that represented Stillman in the deal.
