reconcept GmbH, a project developer in the renewable energy sector, has continued its international growth trajectory with the establishment of its Spanish subsidiary, reconcept Iberia S.L. In Spain, reconcept is concentrating on the realisation of solar parks and battery energy storage systems (BESS). These projects are primarily intended for sites of energy-intensive industries, particularly data centres. Additionally, BESS projects are being designed that can be integrated into the transmission grid. Initial projects in this segment have already been identified and are in the development phase.

With the founding of the new company, reconcept is establishing a direct presence on Spanish territory for the first time. The reconcept Group is thus active in three European countries: Germany, Finland, and Spain. Beyond Europe, reconcept operates in Canada and Southeast Asia. This expansion underscores the company's strategy to strengthen its presence in global renewable energy markets.

Karsten Reetz, Managing Director of reconcept GmbH, commented on the market situation in Spain, emphasising that the Spanish renewable energy market, after the abolition of the subsidy model, is subject to clear market mechanisms. Today, it is one of Europe's most attractive, self-regulated markets for solar energy. Reetz highlighted the firm expansion targets, the interest of energy-intensive industries in renewable energy, and the high number of sunshine hours as relevant factors that make the country appealing to project developers.

reconcept has been following developments in the Spanish market for an extended period. Spain's goal of generating 81 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 is driving the expansion dynamic. Spain has advanced to become one of the fastest-growing markets for renewable energies in Europe and has already converted two-thirds of its installed electricity capacity to renewable sources. Despite this progress, a difference to the set target remains: as of 31 December 2025, 41.7 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaics were installed, while the target for 2030 is 76 GW. For this reason, reconcept sees significant growth opportunities in Spain.

The combination of high solar energy potential, available land, robust international data connectivity, and political support has made Spain an attractive location for data centres, particularly for cloud services and AI infrastructures. reconcept plans to develop renewable energy projects directly with these and other industries at the respective locations. This includes entering into long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) directly with the off-takers. Regulatory requirements to increase the share of renewable energies in industrial electricity consumption, as well as tax incentives, significantly support this strategy. Initial exploratory talks with data centre operators are already underway.

To intensify activities in the Spanish market, the subsidiary reconcept Iberia S.L. was founded. A local team in Madrid is responsible for project development on site. With Richard Wicke, reconcept has gained an experienced lawyer and manager for project development who has been involved in the Spanish renewable energy market for many years. Reetz expressed his conviction that the Spanish market, also due to its gained maturity, offers considerable potential for his company's project development and that the Madrid office will be gradually expanded.
