International hospitality and lifestyle group Aman is expanding its presence in the Caribbean, announcing the development of its new project, Amantaru. The scheme on Puerto Rico's south-west coast represents the brand's fourth destination in the region. The plan envisages a retreat combining a luxury hotel with a limited number of serviced branded residences.
The property is being created in Cabo Rojo within Esencia, a privately managed residential and resort estate spanning around 800 hectares. The site is situated on a quiet hillside above a secluded stretch of beach and directly borders a designated nature and wildlife reserve. Development of the master plan is the responsibility of developers Three Rules Capital and Reuben Brothers.
Architectural concept by MASASTUDIO and private residences
Marwan Al-Sayed of MASASTUDIO, who previously designed the renowned Amangiri resort in Utah for Aman, is responsible for the architectural design. The concept draws inspiration from Puerto Rico's historic fortifications and the surrounding coastal landscape. The plans feature generous spatial layouts with locally sourced materials and sightlines towards the ocean. The residences comprise units with three to eight bedrooms, architecturally aligned with the main building and offering access to the complete hotel infrastructure.
The resort's amenities include an Aman Spa and wellness centre, a beach club, dining venues, and tennis facilities. The wider Esencia estate features two championship golf courses alongside equestrian and field sports clubs. Direct transport connectivity is provided via a nearby private airport, which features its own hangars and a runway approximately 2,040 metres in length.
Strategic expansion across the Americas
In this context, Vlad Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman Group, underlined the objective of establishing the brand's values of seclusion and sensitive landscape integration in Puerto Rico. Demand for exclusive sanctuaries in the Caribbean had reinforced the expansion of the regional portfolio. The project forms part of the group's ongoing expansion across the American continent, which also includes destinations in Los Cabos, Miami Beach, Beverly Hills, and on Exuma.
