In Leopoldshöhe, a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction for a new local supply centre on the former Kochsiek site. Following the complete demolition of the previous factory halls, work has now begun on erecting the retail spaces for EDEKA and Rossmann. The total retail area of this project spans 2,645 square metres.
The investor and developer is a company from the VK Immobilien Gruppe from Dortmund, which previously acquired the plot. The construction project is being implemented by the project developer and general contractor Ten Brinke in cooperation with Profilia, a project developer specialising in retail properties from Porta Westfalica.
Martin Hoffmann, Mayor of the municipality of Leopoldshöhe, emphasised that the start of construction makes a key project for the community visible and strengthens local supply. Michael Weiß, Managing Director of VK Immobilien Gruppe, also expressed his positive view, highlighting that the start of construction is a significant milestone for creating an attractive local supply location that will benefit the population in the long term.
Details on area usage and development
The planned EDEKA supermarket will feature a retail area of approximately 1,900 square metres and will also integrate a bakery with seating. The drugstore chain Rossmann will expand into an area of around 745 square metres. Additionally, 140 car parking spaces will be created outdoors, including those with electric charging infrastructure, along with 30 bicycle parking spaces. A newly created pedestrian link to the main road is intended to improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
Lena Hausen, Project Developer at Ten Brinke in Münster, explained that the work would be carried out efficiently and on schedule. Sebastian Falk, Project Developer at Profilia, underscored that the development of the site would create a modern retail location that contributes to the long-term strengthening of local supply in Leopoldshöhe. The completion of the entire project is scheduled for spring 2027.
Focus on sustainability in development
Particular attention is being paid to sustainable construction methods and energy-efficient building technology. This includes, among other things, the installation of green roofs and photovoltaic systems. In addition, there are plans to utilise the waste heat from the EDEKA supermarket's refrigeration units for energy. The ecological concept is rounded off by new plantings, the preservation of existing green structures, and underground rainwater retention.
