The DRK Kehl District Association has created the infrastructural prerequisites for its future tasks with the completion of its new district business premises in Kehl-Sundheim. The building, realised in cooperation with WeberHaus, unifies various areas of the district association under one roof, taking into account aspects such as sustainability, energy efficiency and accessibility. The necessity for the new building arose from the previously cramped and non-accessible premises, as well as the growing need to more effectively network the DRK's services and work areas.

Rolf Karrais, District Chairman of the DRK Kehl District Association, emphasised that the new premises enable the consolidation of numerous functions at one location and promote the further development of services. At the same time, accessibility for employees and visitors is significantly improved. The building now houses administrative and office spaces, the social welfare centre, and training and functional areas, among others. Modern workplaces, bright rooms and a lift ensure an accessible working environment.

Cost-Effectiveness and Future-Proof Planning

For the DRK District Association, combining cost-effectiveness with long-term quality was crucial from the outset. Mr Karrais explained that cost control was not about building for short-term needs, but about striving for a permanently viable solution. The decision for WeberHaus was made after evaluating various partners, with the economic offer, the building concept and comprehensive support during the planning phase cited as decisive factors. The collaboration was described as smooth, and the consideration of requirements as satisfactory.

In commercial construction, particularly for commercial and public buildings, specific building law standards and usage requirements must be taken into account. WeberHaus assesses such inquiries individually for their feasibility. The DRK project required intensive support, as building law challenges had to be resolved and even a change of location had to be managed during the planning process. Through the cooperation between the client and WeberHaus, the project was successfully advanced.

Rapid Realisation and Sustainability Aspects

Construction began on 28 February 2025. Thanks to the prefabricated timber construction method and the extensive prefabrication associated with it, the project was implemented quickly. The completed building was handed over to the DRK District Association as early as 12 November 2025, and the move into the new premises took place on 2 December 2025. The short construction period of approximately eight and a half months between the start of construction and handover represents a significant advantage of prefabricated timber construction, particularly for clients with immediate space requirements.

A central component of the planning was the sustainable and energy-efficient realisation of the new building. The DRK District Association consciously chose prefabricated timber construction to meet its own sustainability standards. The highly insulated building envelope reduces energy consumption and lowers operating costs in the long term. Additionally, a photovoltaic system and an air-to-water heat pump support a resource-saving energy supply. A green flat roof integrates as a further component into the sustainability concept. Mr Karrais sees the completion as far more than just a relocation, but rather the beginning of a new era that enables the further development of their work and their long-term presence for the people in the region.
