ENGIE Vianeo is accelerating the expansion of Germany's HGV charging network along the TEN-T corridors of motorways A2 and A9. In collaboration with Euro Rastpark, new charging parks are being built at two locations, Lippetal/Hamm and Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen, tailored to the needs of electric heavy goods transport. This development marks another step in establishing a comprehensive charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles in Germany.
The choice of locations was strategic: Lippetal/Hamm is situated on the A2, a central east-west connection linking the Ruhr area with Berlin. The Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen site on the A9 is crucial for north-south logistics flows that traverse Germany towards Munich, Austria, and Italy. This positioning addresses key routes for European freight transport.
At Euro Rastpark Lippetal/Hamm, which has 215 HGV parking spaces, ENGIE Vianeo plans to install six charging points, each with a capacity of 400 kilowatts, by July 2027. Additionally, two Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers with 1,000 kilowatts are planned. For Euro Rastpark Pfaffenhofen/Schweitenkirchen, which sees daily HGV traffic of approximately 13,500 vehicles, the commissioning of six charging points with 400 kilowatts is scheduled from January 2027.
The cooperation is structured so that ENGIE Vianeo fully assumes the investment, construction, and operation of the charging infrastructure at both locations. Euro Rastpark benefits from long-term revenues and enhanced site attractiveness through the expanded service offering, without having to bear its own immediate investment costs. This represents a model for the rapid implementation of necessary infrastructure.
Johannes Witt, Managing Director at Euro Rastpark, emphasised the importance of this cooperation, as Euro Rastpark, with 18 truck stops, forms an integral part of Germany's transport infrastructure. He stated that the partnership with ENGIE Vianeo is a significant step towards realising charging solutions for electric heavy goods transport.
Jan-Niklas Ellerich, Managing Director of ENGIE Vianeo in Germany, highlighted his company's holistic concept for the logistics industry, which ranges from reservation systems to volume contracts. He underscored that providing charging infrastructure on central freight transport arteries, using 100 per cent green electricity, contributes to the energy transition. ENGIE Vianeo has been active in the German market since July 2025 and, in addition to this project, is also involved in building one of the largest rapid charging networks for HGVs in Germany, comprising around 50 locations.
