Just over a year after its reopening in August 2025, the Steigenberger Icon Europäischer Hof Baden-Baden has received comprehensive industry recognition. The historic property, whose origins date back to 1840 and which has been closely associated with the Steigenberger brand as its founding hotel since 1930, was honoured within a matter of weeks with three major industry awards for its architectural redesign and quality.
Design concept and integrated retail use recognised
The German Design Council presented the hotel with the German Design Award 2027 as a Winner in the category Excellent Architecture - Interior Architecture - Public. The award honours the design concept by DK Studio under the leadership of Carolin Deckers, which blends the grand hotel's historic fabric with a contemporary interior. The official presentation of this award is scheduled for January 2027.
Also honoured was the Porsche Studio Baden-Baden, which is integrated into the overall ensemble and operated by the Bauschatz & Gerstenmaier Group. Carolin Deckers and DK Studio were responsible for the concept in collaboration with co-axial. The studio received the German Design Award 2027 in the category Excellent Architecture - Retail Architecture. Prior to this, both the grand hotel in the Architecture - Hospitality category and the Porsche Studio were honoured with the ICONIC AWARDS 2026 in Munich at the beginning of October.
Accolades for ensemble and operating concept
- —German Design Award 2027 for the hotel interior and the integrated retail architecture of the Porsche Studio
- —ICONIC AWARDS 2026 for the hospitality and retail areas of the ensemble
- —Upgrade to two MICHELIN Keys in September 2026 following the first Key in the opening year 2025
Constantin Schmitz, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Transaction & Development at Feuring Hotelconsulting GmbH, emphasised that these accolades confirm the far-sighted decisions made during the development and operational phases. The objective from the outset had been to create a property with a distinctive character and enduring appeal, realised together with DK Studio through a consistent commitment to quality.
Alongside the design accolades, the grand hotel also achieved a higher rating in its hotel and service operations. After being awarded a MICHELIN Key shortly after reopening, the property was upgraded to two MICHELIN Keys in September 2026. General Manager Holger Flory views these achievements primarily as recognition of the daily dedication shown by the entire hotel team.
