Instone Real Estate, a residential developer operating nationwide in Germany, and the housing cooperative Wohnungsbau-Genossenschaft Kontakt e.G. have, together with Leipzig's City Councillor for Construction Thomas Dienberg, laid the foundation stone for three multi-family houses in Parkstadt Leipzig. The construction project comprises a total of 69 privately financed apartments, which have been acquired by WBG Kontakt. The buildings are being constructed on the site of the former Park Hospital in the Dölitz-Dösen district.
For WBG Kontakt, this project marks the third investment in Parkstadt Leipzig. Previously, the cooperative had already acquired a total of 24 subsidised apartments within the district in spring 2024. This was complemented in 2025 by a further 59 rental units, which included both subsidised and privately financed apartments. With the current construction measure, the urban development of the north-western area of the district will be completed.
The planned apartments vary between two and four rooms and comprise a total living area of approximately 4,900 square metres. Additionally, an underground car park with 32 parking spaces will be built. The buildings comply with the Efficiency House 55 standard. Completion of the multi-family houses is planned for the end of 2028. Parkstadt Leipzig, with an area of around 14 hectares, is one of Leipzig's most significant inner-city district developments. By the end of 2028, a total of approximately 600 apartments are to be realised there, 90 of which are designated as subsidised housing.
Thomas Dienberg, City Councillor for Construction for the City of Leipzig, emphasised the importance of such projects given the growing demand for affordable housing in Leipzig. He highlighted that Parkstadt Leipzig is an example of the creation of a vibrant district with various housing options on a historic site. The combination of privately financed, cooperative, and socially subsidised housing, as well as a diverse infrastructure, makes a significant contribution to Leipzig's urban development.
Saidah Bojens, Branch Manager for Instone Real Estate Berlin and Saxony, stated that Parkstadt Leipzig demonstrates a forward-looking district development that combines the preservation of historic building fabric with the creation of new housing. She emphasised the shared objective with WBG Kontakt to develop liveable and long-term sustainable residential districts, interpreting the third joint project as an expression of trust and successful cooperation. Jörg Keim, Chairman of the Board of WBG Kontakt e.G., added that the current ground-breaking ceremony is an important milestone for the development of Parkstadt Leipzig. He stressed that the district combines high residential quality with sustainable urban development and creates the conditions for long-term attractive housing.
Of the total of 600 apartments, around 350 units are being created through the monument-appropriate refurbishment of existing buildings, while a further 250 apartments are being realised in 18 new buildings. The district development is complemented by extensive infrastructure. This includes a day-care centre, local supply facilities, various play and leisure areas, and generously designed green spaces. This overall concept aims to create a diverse and integrated living environment.
