HAMBORNER REIT AG is expanding the infrastructure of its property portfolio with future-proof mobility offerings. Following a tendering process for the first phase of the e-mobility project, a partnership has been agreed with ELECTRA, a European provider of charging infrastructure. This undertaking aims to implement demand-driven and economically viable fast-charging infrastructure at selected property locations.

The initial phase of the project encompasses 20 retail sites in various regions of Germany. A total of 140 fast-charging points are initially planned for installation there. For a later development phase, a capacity expansion to up to 248 charging points is envisioned. This initiative represents HAMBORNER's first extensive, cross-location concept for integrating fast-charging infrastructure within its own property portfolio.

Strategic Importance and Locations

Sarah Verheyen, Board Member of HAMBORNER REIT AG, stated concerning the measure that the expansion of charging infrastructure represents a targeted investment in the future viability of the locations. Electromobility is developing into an increasingly relevant infrastructure service in retail. She emphasised that the integration of fast-charging options enhances the attractiveness of the properties for visitors, strengthens the competitiveness of tenant locations, and simultaneously unlocks additional value creation potential for the portfolio. This project is a further component of the strategy to develop sustainable and future-oriented property locations.

The roll-out of this first phase extends to retail properties in Cologne, Berlin, Bonn, Mannheim, Leipzig, and Aachen, among others. The selection of locations considers accessibility and the possibility of combining the charging process with shopping or other daily errands.

Cooperation and Implementation

ELECTRA pursues the concept of creating charging facilities where users are already present. Paul Tonini, Country Manager Germany at Electra, explained that HAMBORNER REIT AG's locations fit this approach very well. The company aims to ensure the most straightforward, transparent, and reliable charging experience possible, avoiding detours and uncertainties. This includes clear pricing structures, simple operation, and a reliable charging process.

  • 20 retail sites in Germany for the first expansion
  • Initially 140 fast-charging points, expansion to up to 248 planned
  • Locations in Cologne, Berlin, Bonn, Mannheim, Leipzig, Aachen affected, among others

With the decision for ELECTRA, the project now enters the implementation phase. In the coming months, the contractual arrangement of the cooperation and the preparation of the first locations will be in focus. This marks another step in the modernisation of infrastructure for retail properties in Germany.
