Harden Industriebau GmbH, a general contractor active in industrial, logistics, and commercial construction, has completed a specialised construction project in Oberhausen. In May 2026, the company handed over what it claims is Europe's first professional Snooker Arena to the operator. The facility has been accessible to the public ever since. Rheinische Grundbesitz AG from Mülheim acted as the project developer for this construction project, which covers a total area of 2,000 m². Construction work for the arena had begun in September 2025.
The concept developed by Harden Industriebau takes into account specific requirements for a professional training and competition venue. The facility features spacious reception areas for players and visitors. The actual snooker hall is equipped with optimised lighting. A soundproof studio room on the upper level allows for podcast productions and moderation during live broadcasts of competitions. To ensure a pleasant indoor climate for the audience and players, a comprehensive ventilation system has been installed, which serves both for heating and cooling the building using heat pump technology.
Regional and International Significance
The completion of the arena has been followed with interest in the German snooker scene. Thomas Hein, the national snooker coach for the German Billiards Union, expressed the expectation that the new facility would become a central venue for national and international tournaments. He emphasised that the high-quality equipment and spacious training areas would enable a new level of professionalism, which would increase international competitiveness and make the arena a magnet for snooker enthusiasts from across Europe. In June 2026, the arena already hosted the German Championship in the 6-Reds discipline. 39 athletes participated in this event, competing over two days.
Rheinische Grundbesitz AG, a project developer specialising in commercial property development for logistics and commercial park facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia, based in the neighbouring Mülheim an der Ruhr, justified awarding the contract to Harden Industriebau with a successful collaboration. Rheinische Grundbesitz highlighted the general contractor's professional working methods, adherence to calculated budgets and timelines, and problem-solving for complex special tasks. Thorsten Pollok, Managing Director at Harden Industriebau, emphasised the importance of non-standardised projects. He stressed that careful planning and precise, detailed implementation are crucial for special requirements.
Site Development in Oberhausen
The location of the new Snooker Arena at Brammenring, in close proximity to the Westfield Centro shopping centre, is an integral part of a far-reaching urban development project in Oberhausen. The “Neue Mitte 4.0” project aims to enhance the area around the Centro, the Rudolf-Weber-Arena, and the Rhine-Herne Canal through the integration of entertainment offerings, new hotels, and office and residential quarters.
