Indian restaurant Samudhra, headquartered in New Jersey, is expanding across the Hudson River to Hell’s Kitchen, New York. The company secured a 10,000-square-foot lease on the ground floor of The Ellery, a building at 312 West 43rd Street. This marks Samudhra’s second location in the US, following its initial restaurant in Franklin Park, N.J., as stated by the owners. The property is owned by Taconic Partners and National Real Estate Advisors.
Taconic did not disclose details regarding the asking rent or the lease term. According to reports from CBRE, the asking rent for prime retail space in the nearby Times Square retail corridor, between Broadway and Seventh Avenue from 42nd to 47th Streets, was $1,400 per square foot in the second quarter of 2026.
George Tsapelas, Senior Vice President at Taconic, stated that Samudhra brings a high-quality new dining and social experience that will benefit both residents and the wider neighbourhood. He further explained that the vision for The Ellery from the outset was to create a dynamic mixed-use destination that contributes to the area’s energy. Samudhra strengthens the property's already curated retail and dining mix.
For the landlord, Lon Rubackin, Michael Kadosh, and Bevan Cohen of CBRE negotiated the deal. Brad Schwarz of Lee & Associates handled the transaction for the tenant. Mangesh Chinthamaneni, founder and CEO of Samudhra, explained that The Ellery provides an exceptional setting for their New York City location, enabling them to introduce their distinctive premium Indian dining and lounge experience to a significantly broader audience.
This announcement comes just under a year after the German supermarket chain Aldi signed a lease for 25,000 square feet on the ground floor of the building in late August 2025. This was part of Aldi’s broader expansion in the US. The New York Post first reported on Samudhra’s lease.
