GSG Berlin has achieved the highest accolade in the WiredScore certification system for two of its significant historic commercial properties in Berlin. Both GSG-Hof Oranienstraße 6 in Berlin-Kreuzberg and Amperium am Humboldthain in Berlin-Mitte were certified with 100 out of a possible 100 points, underscoring the digital connectivity and infrastructure of the properties.
WiredScore assesses the technical quality of buildings' digital infrastructure. This includes various aspects such as internet connectivity, fibre optic availability, mobile coverage, internal cabling, resilience, and existing capacity reserves for future developments. The top rating achieved signals reliable connectivity, fast data connections, and robust infrastructure to tenants, supporting modern work and production processes.
GSG-Hof Oranienstraße 6, a listed building complex constructed between 1875 and 1929, comprises approximately 5,700 square metres of commercial space in 20 units. It was here that Konrad Zuse completed an early programmable computer in the early 1940s. Today, companies from IT, film and television production, media, retail, and gastronomy are based at the location. The maximum rating confirms that historic building fabric and high-performance digital infrastructure are compatible.
Amperium am Humboldthain, with approximately 109,000 square metres, is one of GSG Berlin's largest properties and is among the defining historic industrial complexes in northern Berlin. The listed ensemble was built between 1895 and 1941 and comprehensively refurbished by GSG from 1985 onwards. The former AEG site, where a test tunnel for underground railways was built around 1900, is now part of the Humboldthain Technology Park. Amperium offers office, commercial, and production spaces in an established commercial environment.
- —Amperium is one of 54 Platinum-certified buildings in Berlin.
- —Supply is provided by several leading network operators.
- —Diversified building entry points and secure telecommunications rooms increase resilience.
- —Existing capacity reserves facilitate new connections.
Thus, Amperium is also suitable for companies with high demands on data availability, mobile communications, and digital work processes. Mr Sebastian Blecke, operational Managing Director of GSG Berlin, emphasised that the two top ratings demonstrate how historic commercial courtyards can meet the highest requirements for digital infrastructure. He highlighted that reliable connectivity is a key locational factor for many companies and that it is GSG's task to maintain the special quality of these properties and to develop them technically so that they remain functional for modern work and production processes.
With these certifications, GSG Berlin makes the technical quality of its properties transparent to users. This allows for better traceability of the prerequisites for networked working, digital business models, and flexible technical requirements. GSG-Hof Oranienstraße 6 and Amperium am Humboldthain thus serve as examples for the further development of existing historic Berlin commercial properties.
