The Danish gourmet liquorice manufacturer, Lakrids by Bülow, has opened a new store in Cologne city centre. The new sales unit is located in the traditional Stollwerck-Haus at Hohe Strasse 160-168. The location ranks among the most heavily frequented shopping streets in the Federal Republic.

The brokerage and advisory firm Colliers was responsible for brokering the lease agreement. Following this latest deal, all retail units in the property on Cologne's pedestrian zone are now fully let.

Full occupancy achieved in Stollwerck-Haus

The arrival of the Danish brand completes the letting process for the entire commercial building. Prior to this completion, Colliers had already advised on several placements of renowned brands in the same property. Stollwerck-Haus is characterised by an established tenant mix from the international premium and consumer goods sectors.

  • —TUMI and Build-A-Bear
  • —Bahlsen (recently brokered by Colliers)
  • —Wempe and Tamaris as long-standing existing tenants
  • —Lakrids by Bülow as the new store operator

Prior to the market entry of Lakrids by Bülow, the advisory firm had already successfully placed the luggage manufacturer TUMI, the toy concept Build-A-Bear, and most recently the traditional brand Bahlsen at this prominent city-centre address. The tenant structure is complemented by the watch and jewellery retailer Wempe and the fashion brand Tamaris.

High footfall underpins Cologne's prime pitch

Daniel Stallmach, Head of Retail Letting at Colliers in North Rhine-Westphalia, assesses the market developments objectively. According to his analysis, the central city-centre location, high visibility and strong footfall continue to make Hohe Strasse one of the most attractive retail locations in Germany.

According to Stallmach, the full occupancy now achieved at Stollwerck-Haus demonstrates sustained demand from national and international chain store operators for high-quality retail spaces in proven prime pitches. Premium locations such as Cologne's shopping boulevard thus continue to assert themselves as sought-after destinations for brand presence in the brick-and-mortar segment, even in the current market environment.
