The hotel company Leonardo Hotels Central Europe is continuing its expansion course in the German market. With the acquisition of the former Holiday Inn Express in Regensburg on 15 October and the former Steigenberger Conti Hansa in Kiel on 21 October, the company is adding two new destinations to its portfolio. In parallel, the group completed the repositioning of a property acquired in Magdeburg the previous year, which has been operating on the market as Leonardo Magdeburg City Center since 19 October.
Market entry in Kiel and new addition in Bavaria
In Regensburg, the group is taking over the property under the name Leonardo Smart Regensburg. The hotel features 144 rooms and is located within walking distance of the historic old town and the main railway station of the Bavarian UNESCO World Heritage city. Alongside a 24-hour hotel bar, the layout includes two combinable meeting rooms for groups of up to 16 people.
With the Leonardo Royal Conti Hansa Kiel, the operating company is establishing its first location in the capital of Schleswig-Holstein. Centrally located opposite the cruise terminals at the Ostseekai, the property offers 164 rooms, including family rooms, junior suites and a 75-square-metre suite with separate living and sleeping areas. The hotel also features eleven function rooms with balconies or terraces for up to 270 participants, a restaurant serving regional and international cuisine, a bar with a lounge and billiards area, as well as fitness and sauna facilities.
Completion of revitalisation in Magdeburg
At the Magdeburg location, the former IntercityHotel was rebranded following an extensive modernisation. Situated directly at the main railway station, the 175-room building has been redesigned across all guest areas. In addition to the guest rooms, this includes the lobby, restaurant and hotel bar. For conferences, five rooms with a total area of 234 square metres are available, the largest of which measures 90 square metres and accommodates 70 guests. Cultural attractions such as Magdeburg Cathedral, the Green Citadel and the promenade along the Elbe are located around one kilometre away.
Yoram Biton, Managing Director of Leonardo Hotels Central Europe, explained that the transactions are part of a multi-stage growth strategy. In addition to acquisitions in new locations such as Kiel and Regensburg, the strategy aims to secure existing properties over the long term through targeted revitalisation measures. Biton also highlighted the trust-based cooperation with the respective partners.
