Leonardo Hotels is continuing its expansion course in the German hotel market and making its first market entry in Schwerin. As of 1 November, the hotel group took over the former IntercityHotel in the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The transfer of the property is part of the ongoing integration of the former REVO hotel portfolio.

During a transitional phase, the property will be operated under the white-label name Hotel Schwerin City Center by Leonardo Hotels. Ahead of its final integration into the brand portfolio, a comprehensive modernisation is scheduled. Following completion of the construction work, the property is to be operated regularly as Leonardo Schwerin City Center.

Extensive modernisation and capacity

The upcoming works cover the entire hotel. All guest rooms and bathrooms, as well as the corridors and public areas, will be redesigned in line with the brand's fit-out standards. In addition, the existing building will be equipped with a new air conditioning system to bring the building services up to modern standards.

  • —180 guest rooms with comprehensively refurbished bathrooms
  • —Seven flexibly combinable meeting rooms for up to 140 participants
  • —In-house restaurant and direct links to the central railway station
  • —Installation of building-wide air conditioning during the modernisation phase

Jan Heringa, Vice President Development and Project Management at Leonardo Hotels Central Europe, explained regarding the acquisition that the move expands the chain's presence in Germany to include an attractive destination. The takeover enables targeted portfolio expansion. Following completion of the full refurbishment, the aim is to welcome guests with the usual standard of quality; Heringa also thanked the partners for their constructive cooperation.

Location factors of the state capital

The property benefits directly from its position at Schwerin central railway station, ensuring rapid transport links and short distances to the city centre. With 180 rooms, an on-site dining venue and flexible conference facilities, the accommodation concept is aimed equally at leisure travellers, business guests and regional corporate clients.

As the administrative centre of the federal state, Schwerin generates consistent demand from the corporate client segment. At the same time, tourist attractions such as Schwerin Castle, the historic old town and the location on Lake Schwerin strengthen the market position of well-connected hotel assets.
