A Peek Inside the Homes of Australia’s Top Tennis Stars

From Toorak mansions to tax havens, Australia’s tennis stars have won and lost big in real estate.

W
hile the US Open courts are alive with rallies, a number of Australia’s top tennis players are making headlines in a different arena – property. Their real‑estate holdings span London cottages, Caribbean tax‑free havens and Gold Coast beach mansions.

    **Alex de Minaur**

In 2023 the world No. 1 and his fiancée Katie Boulter bought a £1.9 million (US$3.97 million) London cottage. The couple have lived in the capital for two years, having previously resided in New Providence, the Bahamas – a recognised offshore financial centre. De Minaur’s mixed‑doubles bid at the US Open was rejected earlier this month, and he exited the singles draw in the quarter‑finals.

    **Nick Kyrgios**

Kyrgios has split his time between Nassau, the Bahamas, and Sydney. In July 2022 he posted a beach photo from the Caribbean with the caption “Home.” He sold a Kensington penthouse in June 2024 for US$1.925 million after buying it for US$1.6 million in 2022, renovating the kitchen and flooring and turning a profit of about US$325 000. His US Open campaign was cut short by a knee injury that forced him out of both singles and mixed‑doubles.

    **Ash Barty**

The former world No. 1, who earned over US$30 million on the tour, retired in 2022 at age 25. She invested US$4 million in a luxury beachfront apartment on the Gold Coast’s Palm Beach complex, which is still under construction. The four‑bedroom, three‑bath unit will feature ocean views, European oak floors, Miele appliances and a private balcony, intended as a “lock‑up‑and‑leave” holiday home.

    **Lleyton Hewitt**

Hewitt and his wife Bec sold their Toorak mansion in December 2021 for US$15.2 million after purchasing it for US$12.7 million. They also bought a Gold Coast manor, The Palms, for US$4.305 million in 2021, which was later sold for an undisclosed amount. In 2014 they sold an Adelaide home for US$2.18 million, a loss on the US$3.2 million purchase price. The couple reportedly own a Glenhaven estate valued at US$10.3 million.

    **Pat Rafter**

The 1990s US Open champion turned his earnings into a property portfolio. In 2024 he sold a Gold Coast apartment for over US$500 000. His biggest sale came in 2018 when he and wife Lara Feltham sold a designer home in Sunshine Beach for US$15.2 million, down from an initial asking price of US$18 million after nearly two years on the market. Rafter also owns a four‑bedroom home in Tweed Heads, bought for US$540 000 in 2020.

    **Bernard Tomic**

Tomic’s real‑estate record mirrors his on‑court volatility. He sold two Gold Coast villas in 2018 for an undisclosed sum, after a protracted sale that began in 2012 when the Southport properties were listed at US$750 000 each. In 2015 he purchased a Sunshine Coast home for US$3.5 million with then‑girlfriend Vanessa Sierra. Earlier this year, media reports revealed that he was under investigation for alleged match‑fixing in 2022.

These athletes demonstrate that the allure of the tennis court can be matched by the appeal of a well‑chosen property, whether it’s a quiet London retreat or a sun‑kissed Gold Coast villa.
