Actor John Goodman Sells New Orleans Mansion for $5.5M Amid California Fire Loss

Goodman bought the Garden District property from Trent Reznor in 2005 for $1.8 million off-market.

J
ohn Goodman, the 72-year-old actor known for his role in "Roseanne," has put his New Orleans residence on the market for $5.5 million after his Los Angeles home was destroyed in a California wildfire last month. The Garden District property, which he purchased from Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor in 2005 for $1.8 million, has been Goodman's primary residence with his wife Anna Beth for nearly two decades.

The four-bedroom, 4.5-bath Italianate-Greek Revival home, built in the 1850s, boasts a chef's kitchen with quartzite countertops, a saltwater pool, and "deep double galleries overlooking lush gardens." The listing highlights its historical integrity and modern enhancements.

Goodman initially moved to New Orleans in 1989 as an escape from Los Angeles' bustle. In a 2014 interview, he explained that he had grown tired of show business and was drawn to the city's unique charm. He recalled his first visit during Mardi Gras in 1972, saying "I just flipped for the city." The couple later abandoned their initial "haunted" home for the current property.

The listing comes as Goodman is recovering from an on-set injury suffered while filming in the UK. Production has temporarily halted, but sources expect him to make a full recovery. It's unclear why Goodman is selling his New Orleans home, but it marks a shift from a city he once called his haven.
