£5.7 million English countryside estate has been on the market for over a decade, and its owner blames Adele's comments about it being "haunted". The singer lived in the 10-bedroom Lock House, a converted convent with indoor and outdoor pools, tennis court, and helicopter pad, for just six months in 2012.
Despite its luxurious features, including nearly 20,000 square feet of living space, the property has failed to attract buyers. Owner Nicholas Sutton claims Adele's comments have been a major stumbling block, saying they "negatively impacted future marketing efforts" and continue to affect the property's reputation.
In an interview with CBS in 2012, Adele described the historic property as "a bit of a cliché", adding that it gave her the creeps. Her bodyguard even moved in because she found the house too scary. Sutton says this has scared off prospective buyers and even led to one offer falling through after the buyer discovered Adele's claims.
The estate, which occupies 32 acres of pristine grounds, retains a distinct institutional look from its days as a convent in the 1970s. Despite high-end marketing campaigns, Sutton has yet to find a buyer. He is now seeking permission to divide the mansion into three houses and convert the garage and flat into a cottage.
Sutton believes this proposal will preserve the property's historical significance while delivering much-needed housing. This isn't the first time he has tried to redevelop the property – an earlier plan to create five flats was rejected by the council, but he remains hopeful that his latest bid will be approved.
