A
bill aimed at safeguarding victims of real estate scams has cleared a major hurdle in the state legislature. State Representative Tim Bonner (R-Butler, Mercer) co-sponsored House Bill 1406 with a Democrat from Philadelphia to make deed fraud a second-degree felony.

    This legislation targets scammers who forge property titles and deeds to steal homes from rightful owners. Having passed unanimously through the House of Representatives, the bill will now move on to the state Senate for review and vote.
