Alec Baldwin says NYC home is cramped despite 6,000 sq. ft. space

Alec Baldwin's Greenwich Village home is bursting at the seams, with no secrets kept.

A
lec Baldwin's Greenwich Village penthouse, a 4,137-square-foot duplex at Devonshire House, is bursting with family and pets. Despite its elegance and traditional charm, the space has proven insufficient for the couple and their seven children, four dogs, four cats, and presumed team of nannies.

The apartment, which cost $11.7 million in 2011, features bunk beds for the three boys, a split room for a younger son and daughter, and a makeshift gym area with a Stairmaster next to an 11-year-old's bed. A see-through dog runway runs through the kitchen, while a cat tower dominates the dining room.

Built in 1928 by Emery Roth, Devonshire House was originally designed as a residential building for working-class people and artists. However, in the 2000s, developers transformed it into condos with a gothic flair. The Baldwins expanded their footprint at the building by purchasing additional units, including a one-bedroom next door for $1.2 million, a studio for $1.3 million, and a penthouse for $1.7 million.

The family's living situation has been documented on their TLC reality show "The Baldwins," which premiered in February. The show highlights the challenges of living in a small space with a large family, as well as the couple's efforts to make the most of their surroundings. Despite its limitations, the apartment remains a beloved home for the Baldwin family.

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin have been house-hunting on and off over the years, considering properties like a $16.5 million Chelsea penthouse and a $16.6 million Nomad condo in 2017. However, they've chosen to stay put at Devonshire House and continue expanding their living space within the building.
