A
mazon has officially set up shop in Ashland after closing a real estate deal on December 2. The company purchased 22.41 acres of vacant land at the northwest corner of Wells Road and U.S. Route 250 for $441,520. This purchase was part of an earlier agreement approved by the city council in August for $448,200.
The property will be used as a last-mile delivery station, according to county records. Ashland Mayor Matt Miller sees this development as significant, stating it puts the city on the map and will bring a substantial number of new jobs with competitive wages. Amazon has not requested any tax incentives, meaning the exact number of employees they plan to hire remains unknown.
The city's ownership of "shovel-ready" land played a crucial role in attracting Amazon. The property is located near a major interstate highway and already has all necessary utilities installed, making it an attractive location for the tech giant. This deal marks Ambrose Services LLC's first project with Amazon, as they specialize in developing facilities for e-commerce and logistics companies across the U.S.
Mayor Miller credits the city's competitive pricing and ready-to-go land as key factors in securing the deal. While details about the facility are scarce, it is expected to be an 87,000 square-foot operation that will handle shipping, sorting, and staging packages for daily delivery.
