Amazon nears deal for 80K sq ft space at Wynwood Plaza complex

Amazon nears deal for 75,000 sq ft office space in Wynwood Plaza project in Miami.

A
mazon is nearing a deal to lease space in the Wynwood Plaza project in Miami, with talks indicating it may take around 75,000 square feet. The exact size of the space is still being determined, potentially ranging from 60,000 to 80,000 square feet. Amazon has been scouting other options and hasn't made a final decision.

The company had previously announced plans to open a 50,000-square-foot office in Miami-Dade County last year. It already has employees working out of a WeWork outpost in Coral Gables since 2022. Founder Jeff Bezos also has a personal stake in the area, having moved from Seattle and invested $237 million in three residential properties in Indian Creek Village.

Wynwood Plaza is being developed by a partnership including Oak Row Equities, L&L Holding Company, Shorenstein Properties, and Marcelo Claure's Miami-based Claure Group. The project will feature a 12-story office building, luxury apartments, retail space, and a public plaza. Amazon didn't comment on the potential lease.

The deal would be a boost to Miami's efforts to establish itself as a tech hub, with venture capital and tech companies signing leases starting in late 2020. However, data shows that tech company leasing slowed between 2021 and last year. Apple has also made significant moves in the area, taking space at The Plaza at Coral Gables and leasing a building under construction at Miami Worldcenter.
