hawmut Design and Construction marked the completion of 808 Windsor Street with a ceremonial ribbon cutting last Thursday. The event celebrated the second purpose-built Class-A lab building in Somerville's Boynton Yards mixed-use life sciences community.
Somerville Mayor Katjana Ballantyne joined representatives from Shawmut, DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners, Leggat McCall Properties, and Deutsche Finance America at the Nov. 14 event. Designed by ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge and built by Shawmut, 808 Windsor Street is a LEED Platinum building with 11 floors, 370,000 RSF of state-of-the-art R&D lab/office space.
The seven-acre Boynton Yards site will eventually feature commercial, residential, retail, civic, arts, and performance spaces. Amenities at 808 Windsor include ground floor retail, below grade parking, bike storage, a gym, conference room, outdoor terrace, and multiple collaboration spaces.
"Completing 808 Windsor is an exciting milestone for Boynton Yards," said Kevin Sullivan, Executive Vice President of Shawmut's New England Region. "We're proud to have built these state-of-the-art spaces that will contribute to Somerville's transformation into a leading center for innovation and research."
Boynton Yards Park, a new half-acre civic space between 101 South Street and 808 Windsor Street, features a central lawn, splash pad, native planting beds, and thoughtfully designed amenities. The park is one of several recently completed Somerville parks setting a new standard for development-born public spaces.
808 Windsor joins 101 South Street, the development's first lab building, as well as other amenities like Portico Brewing, Mamaleh's Café, The Hive, and The Block. As the first master planned development under Somerville's new zoning ordinance, Boynton Yards continues to bring approximately 4,000 permanent jobs to the city.
