B
rockton Hospital in Massachusetts has completed its massive reconstruction project following a devastating fire in early 2023. The collaborative effort between Auburn Construction, SmithGroup, Liro Group, Peregrine Group, Anania Plumbing, and J&M Brown Company has resulted in a fully restored 341,000-square-foot building with significant improvements to several facilities.

The hospital reopened its doors in August 2024, offering an improved healthcare environment for patients and staff. Behind the scenes, the team replaced outdated infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, medical gas, and air handling systems, spanning the entire building footprint. A new addition houses switchgear, generators, and transformers, meeting modern code standards and ensuring minimal disruption in case of future disasters.

The fire closure also enabled other developments to move forward. SmithGroup designed a modernized main lobby, while Liro Group completed a brand-new Outpatient Surgical facility, redesigned Emergency Department, updated Radiology, behavioral health facility, and improved compounding pharmacy. These upgrades provide safer, more comprehensive healthcare services to the community.

"The journey to rebuild Brockton Hospital has been a testament to resilience, collaboration, and efficient project management," said David Kelliher, president of Auburn Construction. "Every team worked tirelessly together with the single goal of reviving this staple of the Brockton community."

The final phase focuses on completing the Maternity, Pediatric, and Behavioral Health units, expected to be finished in the coming months. With these new improvements, Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital is poised to continue its tradition of excellence for another 125 years and beyond.

Signature Healthcare's real estate advisory group, Peregrine Group, emphasized that everyone involved worked tirelessly to create a welcoming environment while maintaining optimal conditions for current patients. The community can now enjoy the notable changes made to this community pillar, transforming it into a more modern and efficient facility.
