Brooklyn Townhouse Sells for $1M Over Asking, Courtesy of 'Divorce Whisperer' Elise Pettus

Elise Pettus, "divorce whisperer" and founder of UNtied, lists 17 Willow Place.

A
Brooklyn Heights townhouse that served as a hub for a community of divorcées has sold for $11 million, a whopping $1 million above its asking price. The property was listed just seven days prior to the sale.

The seller, Elise Pettus, is a "divorce whisperer" and founder of UNtied, an organization that supports women navigating divorce, particularly those experiencing "gray divorce." Pettus created UNtied after wishing for such a resource during her own divorce. The Post has dubbed her one of the new breed of "divorce concierges" catering to wealthy New Yorkers seeking stress-free divorces.

The charming three-story townhouse, built on the site of an 19th-century carriage house, boasts stunning architecture and design. Its ivy-covered facade and garden have hosted workshops and dinner parties for Pettus's community, as documented in the New York Times.

Word of the property's listing spread quickly among Pettus's network of women who had formed strong bonds over their shared experiences. This buzz helped fuel interest in the property, with hundreds of brokers and potential buyers clamoring to see it. The buyer, an individual who wishes to remain anonymous, made a high bid after seeing the level of interest.

Pettus purchased her half of 17 Willow Place for $1.88 million in 2014 from her ex-husband, Daniel Algrant, a filmmaker and writer. In March, she wrote an article for Oprah Daily about the moment she knew her marriage was over.

The property features four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and 4,600 square feet of living space. Its minimalist design incorporates glass window walls, skylights, and a coveted curb cut for a private garage. The residence also boasts a sculptural staircase, hidden office space, and a rare rear atrium courtyard.

The listing broker was Joan Goldberg of Brown Harris Stevens.
