evelopers from across the board gathered in Jackson this week for a unique training opportunity. The Real Estate Developer Training Academy, organized by the city's Planning and Development Department and Grow America, brought together 25 developers to learn from experienced professionals about the ins and outs of real estate development.
The week-long academy covered topics such as pre-development, team building, financing, public-private partnerships, and property management. Participants also gained valuable insights into raising money, managing construction, and leasing properties.
"This program is part of Grow America's Supporting Empowered Emerging Developers Academy, which has seen significant success in multiple cities nationwide," said Courtney Pogue, Senior Director at Grow America. "We've helped developers build affordable housing, retail centers, and shopping centers, among other projects."
The academy is just the first step for participants, who will now enter an 18-month mentorship program to work on their own projects. The program concludes with a capstone project that showcases their skills and knowledge.
For one participant, Brandee Harrington, the academy provided a comprehensive understanding of the development process. "I learned how to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios," she said. "This experience has given me the confidence to bring new developments to Jackson."
Organizers hope to make this program an annual event in Jackson, providing ongoing support and training for local developers.
