Charles Kushner appointed US ambassador to France

Trump administration strengthens CRE ties with diplomatic appointment of pardoned developer

T
he Trump administration has strengthened its ties with the commercial real estate (CRE) industry through Charles Kushner's appointment as ambassador to France and Monaco. The US Senate confirmed Kushner, founder of Kushner Companies and father of Jared Kushner, in a 51-45 vote on Monday.

Kushner's nomination was notable for receiving support from Democratic Sen. Cory Booker, despite his controversial past. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to tax evasion and other crimes, serving two years in federal prison. Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie described the case as "one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes" he prosecuted.

During his Senate confirmation hearing, Kushner acknowledged his past mistakes but argued they made him a stronger candidate for the job. Trump has praised Kushner's business acumen and philanthropic efforts, citing his recognition as New Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year and leadership roles at various organizations.

Kushner pledged to strengthen US-France economic relations and encourage France to increase defense spending aligned with US strategic interests. His appointment joins a list of prominent real estate and finance executives in senior diplomatic and government roles, including Steve Witkoff, Tilman Fertitta, Howard Lutnick, and Bill Pulte.
