hevron is embarking on a $66.5 million renovation of its downtown Houston offices, marking a significant investment in the city after relocating from California. The overhaul will focus on the upper levels of the 40-story building at 1500 Louisiana Street, although specific details about the project have not been disclosed.
The company's commitment to Houston is evident through its existing presence, including a $1.2 billion building at 1400 Smith Street and plans for an upstream research and development campus in Cypress. Additionally, Chevron's venture capital division has leased space at the Ion, a tech hub established by Rice University in Midtown.
Chevron employs around 7,000 workers in the Houston area, with 6,000 based in downtown and 1,000 elsewhere in the metro. The company is evaluating which positions will relocate to Houston and which will remain in San Ramon to support its California operations.
The renovation comes after Chevron sold its former headquarters in San Ramon, a 92-acre campus that had been home to the energy giant for 140 years. The sale marked a significant shift in the company's presence on the West Coast, with plans to consolidate its operations in Texas.
