ity of Hope has acquired 52 acres surrounding its $1 billion cancer center under construction in Irvine for $88.5 million. The land and a four-story headquarters building were purchased from FivePoint Holdings, a major real estate developer in Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Bay Area. This expansion will connect to City of Hope's administrative offices near Barranca and Alton parkways.
The purchase supports City of Hope's move into Orange County, aiming to shorten commutes for thousands of cancer patients who currently travel to its San Gabriel Valley hospital for treatment. The Irvine facility, set to open next year, will be the organization's second comprehensive cancer center in California, after Duarte.
City of Hope executives don't have immediate plans for the new land and office building, but acquiring it secures their future presence in Orange County. Annette Walker, president of City of Hope Orange County, stated that this expansion will bring advanced cancer care, pioneering research, and programs to the people of Orange County.
