Boston – City Kids, the nonprofit arm of City Realty Group, hosted a powerful visit from Indira Ranamagar, a global human‑rights advocate and Nepal’s Deputy Speaker. The event, organized with Councilor Erin Murphy of Dorchester, brought Ranamagar to Boston to speak with teens interning at City Hall, giving them a firsthand look at the fight for justice, democracy, and children’s rights.
Ranamagar founded PA Nepal (Prisoners Assistance Nepal), rescuing over 1,000 children who lived in Nepal’s overcrowded prisons with their incarcerated parents. Through PA Nepal, these children are placed in safe homes, receive education, and learn life skills such as agriculture and animal care. She shared her own journey from poverty to education, her dedication to children born into incarceration, and the dangers she has faced advocating for humane treatment of prisoners and their children, especially women.
“This was more than a visit—it was a lesson in courage, resilience, and the global reach of justice,” said Stephen Whalen, City Kids co‑founder and Managing Partner of City Realty Group. “We hope these young people leave with a deeper understanding of standing up for others and the power of one voice.”
Ranamagar and Councilor Murphy discussed shared democratic challenges and cross‑cultural learning opportunities. “It was a pleasure meeting Councilor Murphy, a strong advocate for community development,” said Indira. “We explored how our countries can learn from each other’s democratic experiences.”
Pralhad KC, Honorary Consul of Nepal, also attended, underscoring the event’s international significance. City Kids recently funded a new computer lab at a PA Nepal home, further supporting the organization’s mission.
Founded by Fred Starikov and Stephen Whalen, City Kids aims to ignite curiosity, empathy, and global awareness in Boston youth, demonstrating how local initiatives can connect young people to worldwide movements and inspire purposeful, compassionate leadership.
