oStar Group, a real estate news service provider, has downsized its editorial team in Richmond, Virginia. Eric Garwood, a content editor for Homes.com, and Meredith Rosenberg, who covered architecture and real estate, are among those let go. Rosenberg revealed on LinkedIn that her entire team was laid off.

In a statement, the company attributed the layoffs to efficiency gains from AI adoption and reallocation of resources. They anticipate eliminating roles in 2025 through normal performance management processes as well. CoStar declined to disclose the exact number of employees affected or how many were in editorial positions.

The company plans to hire 1,000 new staff members this year, focusing on development, technology, AI, video production, real estate writing, news, and management roles. A local report estimates that around 120 workers were cut from the Richmond operations. Despite the layoffs, Homes.com's online network attracted an average of 110 million unique visitors per month in Q4 2024, according to Google Analytics.
