Prospect Medical Holdings, the bankrupt parent of Crozer Health, is putting Crozer‑Chester Medical Center and Springfield Hospital up for sale. Bids close Oct. 7; a virtual auction will follow on Oct. 10 if enough qualified offers arrive.
Crozer once ran Delaware County’s largest health system, operating a trauma center and an ambulance fleet that served over half the county. Prospect shuttered Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Springfield Hospital in 2022, filed for bankruptcy in January, and closed Crozer‑Chester and Taylor Hospital shortly after, after several failed attempts to sell the properties. The collapse has stretched ambulance response times and increased ER wait times for Delaware County residents.
ChristianaCare acquired several Crozer outpatient sites in May via a bankruptcy auction. Prospect’s motion to abandon Pennsylvania assets opened the door for the Upper Darby School District to purchase Delaware County Memorial Hospital for $600,000 in August, and for KQT Aikens Partners to buy Taylor Hospital for $1 million in early September. A sale hearing for Crozer‑Chester and Springfield is set for Oct. 24. It remains unclear who will bid on the real estate or how the sites will be used after the sale.
