allas City Manager Kim Tolbert is working to keep the Mavericks in the city, teaming up with a prominent real estate company to identify a new home for them. The search for a new arena continues as the current lease at American Airlines Center expires in 2031.
Tolbert spoke with WFAA about the efforts to retain both the Mavericks and the Dallas Stars, saying she loves having both teams in the city and wants to ensure they stay. "They are brands that truly demonstrate all that Dallas has to offer," Tolbert said. "We're having great discussions and working alongside leaders who understand that Dallas is home."
The city hired Hillwood Urban Services, a commercial real estate development firm chaired by Ross Perot Jr., to assist in the search. The company was tasked with providing site identification, evaluation, and feasibility analysis for a new arena.
Tolbert declined to release further details about the status of discussions, saying only that the city is committed to maintaining its relationship with the Mavericks and continuing to engage with team officials on possible sites.
