T
he Dare County Tax Department is reminding property owners that the countywide revaluation of all real estate will take effect on January 1, 2025. This process updates property values to reflect their current market value, which is essential for maintaining equity in property values and ensuring each owner contributes their fair share towards funding community services.
Revaluation is required by North Carolina law at least once every eight years, but Dare County has been on a five-year schedule since the last revaluation in 2020. Property owners can expect to receive notices with new appraised values in mid-to-late February 2025. If they disagree with their new assessed value, they have 30 days to submit an informal appeal.
For more information and resources, including a comparable sales search tool and frequently asked questions, property owners can visit DareNC.gov/Revaluation or contact the Dare County Tax Department at 252-475-5940 or [email protected].
