xtell Development is facing a new lawsuit related to its Lincoln Square project, 50 West 66th Street. Law firm Freedman Normand Friedland has sued the developer for unpaid bills totaling around $500,000, which is half of the approximately $1 million in fees and expenses they claim Extell owes them. The law firm alleges breach of contract and unjust enrichment, seeking repayment plus interest.
This latest lawsuit comes after a previous court battle with nonprofit City Club of New York, which attempted to halt construction due to zoning violations and safety concerns. Despite two years of litigation, including an appeal in 2021, Extell won the right to complete the project. The tower has since seen success, becoming the tallest on the Upper West Side after topping out in May.
The property has been over 50% sold, with some of Manhattan's priciest signed contracts, including a $16.5 million condo sale in January 2024. Extell secured a $1.2 billion loan from JVP Management to refinance the property in July, marking at least $840 million of that loan being transferred to JVP Management.
