ickies workwear is trading its Texas roots for a California vibe. The company's headquarters will relocate from Fort Worth to Costa Mesa by next May, affecting around 120 local employees. VF Corporation, Dickies' parent company, is consolidating operations with Vans, which occupies a large space in Costa Mesa.
This move comes as a surprise given Dickies' recent investment in its Fort Worth facility, where it spent $4.5 million on renovations and created an archive showcasing 102 years of history. Mayor Mattie Parker expressed disappointment, suggesting that VF will regret leaving the city known for its pro-business environment.
Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership president Robert Allen noted that this decision bucks a trend, as over 230 companies have left California for Texas since 2005. The relocation is part of VF's broader cost-cutting strategy, which aims to revitalize Dickies and preserve its heritage. While local operations will continue, the loss feels deeply personal for a brand that has contributed significantly to Fort Worth's identity.
