A
pair of lawsuits filed by former Portfolio Escrow President William Grasska and Douglas Elliman against each other have been settled, paving the way for dismissal. The Los Angeles Superior Court cases were filed in October, with Grasska suing the brokerage and its executives over kickback allegations and other claims, while Douglas Elliman sued Grasska for breach of contract and embezzlement.
The settlements were announced through court filings on December 17, but details remain confidential. Grasska has maintained his innocence, stating that he operates with "utmost ethical and moral standards" and continues to hold necessary licenses. He runs several businesses, including Riviera Financial Partners and Aspen 1031 Exchange, and recently started Beverly Hills-based Ravello Escrow.
Grasska's lawsuit accused Douglas Elliman of retaliation, breach of contract, negligence, and defamation, while also alleging that Portfolio Escrow provided marketing services to agents in violation of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. The brokerage countered with its own lawsuit, accusing Grasska of embezzlement, misappropriation of trade secrets, and fraud.
The settlements come after a report identified Jason Oppenheim, a "Selling Sunset" star, as the high-profile Los Angeles real estate broker allegedly involved in a kickback scheme with Grasska. Oppenheim denied any wrongdoing, calling it "ridiculous" to characterize their arrangement as a scheme.
