ast Islip is a tight-knit community where many residents return after getting married. Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter notes that the hamlet's charm lies in its numerous popular sites, including Heckscher State Park with its 1,600 acres of trails and access to the Great South Bay. The park now offers glamping options.
East Islip Marina is another hotspot for beachgoers, boaters, and fishermen. The South Shore Nature Center Preserve provides educational programs and walking trails, while Brookwood Hall Park hosts concerts and outdoor movie nights. Deer also find solace at East Islip Marina Park.
Realtor Darren Sebor of Howard Hanna Coach Realtors highlights the community's proximity to Fire Island and its convenient location near major amenities. He credits the waterfront as a significant draw for homebuyers.
New developments in East Islip cater to seniors, including a 106-unit Benchmark Senior Living assisted living community approved by the town. Main Street boasts eateries, shops, and businesses, making it a vibrant hub of activity.
Historically, the area was sparsely settled with farmers, fishermen, and workers in boat building, lumbering, and shipping industries. Town meetings were held at local hotels like The Pavillion, Somerset, and Lake House. Heckscher State Park was named after philanthropist August Heckscher, who donated $262,000 towards its purchase.
