l Cosmico, a hotel in West Texas, is expanding its horizons with a new development project in collaboration with construction tech company Icon. The project involves the construction of domes, vaults, and arches on 60 acres of desert land in Marfa using Icon's advanced 3D printing technology. This technology can withstand wind speeds of up to 250 miles per hour. The development will include homes, a hotel, a spa, and a restaurant.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place as Icon has started building on a large scale after years of test projects and hype. Icon has recently completed a 100-home development project in Georgetown in collaboration with Lennar.
El Cosmico, currently a 21-acre hotel and campground known for its West Texas psychedelic vibes, will now offer homes for sale as well. These three- and four-bedroom homes will range from 2,000 to 2,500 square feet and will be located on at least one acre of land. Kuper Sotheby's International has listed these homes for sale, starting at $2.29 million.
The construction of this new development is expected to be completed by 2026. El Cosmico's original location will close next year to make way for this new project.
At South by Southwest in March, Icon unveiled a new 3D printer that resembles a robotic arm. This new model can print two-story structures and is not being used for El Cosmico's project.
This project marks a significant step for El Cosmico as it enters the residential market. Icon plans to build an undisclosed number of affordable housing units as well.
The first model home is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
