Elite NYC Co-op Duplex Returns to Market at $24 Million

A private equity executive purchased a 5-bedroom pre-war co-op at 740 Park Ave. for $22.5M in 2016, listing it for $28.5M the following year.

J
effrey Leeds, founder of Leeds Equity Partners, and his wife Elizabeth Marshall Leeds have relisted their 5-bedroom duplex at New York's iconic 740 Park Ave for $24 million, a reduction from its previous ask of $28.5 million. The high-end Upper East Side building boasts a rich history, having been developed by James Thomas Lee, the maternal grandfather of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The Leeds purchased the pre-war dwelling in 2016 for $22.5 million from Elizabeth Macklowe Swig, daughter of developer Harry Macklowe. The unit had previously listed for $32.5 million in 2014 and spent two years on the market before selling. At the time, it was reportedly in danger of foreclosure due to allegedly shady loans.

Designed by Stephen Sills, the 16-room duplex features a private elevator landing, marble floors, and curved stairs. The unit includes a formal dining room that seats 12, a living room with a fireplace, and a wood-paneled library with another fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with two refrigerators and dual gas ranges.

The building's amenities include a gym and storage units, and pets are welcome. Past residents of the esteemed co-op have included John D. Rockefeller and Julia Koch. The listing broker is Chase Landow of Serhant.
