A
beloved Englewood pizzeria has a new owner. Mohammad Khater, who operates the Crown Auto car lot nearby, purchased the 1,725-square-foot retail building at 4701 S. Broadway for $705,000 last month. The property was home to Frank The Pizza King for 64 years before its closure in April.
The pizzeria's impending shutdown sparked a community outpouring of support, with over $10,000 raised on GoFundMe towards launching a new location elsewhere. Despite this effort, the business appears to be winding down, with recent social media posts focused on selling T-shirts and restaurant equipment.
Khater, who did not respond to requests for comment, has owned the car lot across from the pizzeria's former site for some time. The building itself was constructed in 1959 and sits on about a third of an acre. A family trust had owned the property since before Pizza King opened its doors.
