nna Miroshina, a 40-year-old Russian expat, has called Koh Samui, Thailand home for over a decade. She moved to the island after feeling unfulfilled in her IT career and struggling with depression. Her friend had opened a bar on the island, and she decided to join him for a year, which eventually turned into a lifelong commitment.
While working at the bar, Miroshina discovered her passion for real estate and became a freelance agent. She found that the income was better than what she made at the bar, and she enjoyed the freedom of being her own boss. As she settled into island life, she realized that she had no intention of returning to Russia.
Miroshina started her own real estate agency, Siam.Villas, two years ago. She appreciates the relaxed atmosphere on the island, where people are friendly and life moves at a slower pace. The island's matriarchal culture makes her feel safe and respected as a woman, which is a welcome change from her experiences in Russia.
Miroshina's typical day starts with exercise and beach time, followed by work as an agent. She enjoys the flexibility of her schedule and the opportunity to watch the sunset every evening. Despite the island's reputation for being expensive, Miroshin finds that it's possible to live comfortably on a moderate budget.
The recent popularity of Koh Samui, thanks in part to the TV show "The White Lotus," hasn't had a significant impact on local real estate. Miroshina notes that people have been interested in moving to the island for years, and she didn't see an increase in buyers or interest after the show was filmed.
Miroshina has committed to making Koh Samui her permanent home by buying a house three years ago. She feels a sense of belonging on the island and appreciates the Thai saying "sabai sabai," which encourages people to take it easy and enjoy life. As she continues to build her business, Miroshina is taking Thai language lessons and plans to apply for citizenship in the next two years.
