Family of slain Houston real estate agent speaks out after suspect's bond release

Ashlee Long's family seeks justice after her murder, as suspect remains out on bond.

A
Houston family is reeling from the loss of their 28-year-old daughter, Ashlee Long, who was shot and killed in April in Dallas. Kendrick Finch, the man charged with her murder, has been released on bond. In an emotional interview, Ashlee's mother, Michelle Long, recalled the devastating moment she learned of her daughter's death: "We were on our way to see her at the hospital when we got a call that she didn't make it."

Ashlee's family is struggling to understand why Finch was released so quickly. Her brother, Kevin Marsalis, expressed frustration: "It's unbelievable that someone who's clearly guilty of shooting your loved one can be back on the streets and enjoying their family."

The family wants justice for Ashlee and is pushing for bond reform. They've spoken with Texas lawmakers to advocate for legislation that would revoke bond from violent criminals like Finch. Marsalis said, "I think the only way this will change is if people go to the lawmakers and say we're not going to put up with this anymore."
