Providence family is suing a real estate firm, alleging they were deceived into selling their home. The Delvas thought they were refinancing, but instead signed away ownership for $100,000. Jean Delva, who immigrated from Haiti in the 1980s, had worked hard to buy and maintain his family's home of 30 years.
His daughter Sheila said her father was approached by a man named Lowell Williams, an associate of realtor Kyle Seyboth, with a refinancing offer that seemed like a lifeline when foreclosure loomed. However, prosecutors claim the Delvas unknowingly signed away their home. After months of payments, Seyboth listed the home for $450,000 and offered to let Jean buy it back.
The lawsuit accuses Williams, Seyboth, and his team of targeting vulnerable families, including older adults with limited English proficiency. The Seyboth Team denies the allegations, stating they have a "well-earned reputation" as a top brokerage in Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts. They plan to defend themselves vigorously.
Sheila's family is fighting to restore their home and feel a sense of justice. NBC 10 reached out to Lowell Williams for comment but did not receive a response. Seyboth has agreed to take the house off the market, allowing the Delvas to remain in the home until the case is resolved.
