lorida officials have earmarked a 2.6‑acre parcel along Biscayne Boulevard—adjacent to the Kaseya Center and the historic Freedom Tower—in downtown Miami as the prospective location for President Donald Trump’s presidential library. The Florida Cabinet approved the donation unanimously on Tuesday. Attorney General James Uthmeier lauded the gesture, noting that “President Trump has a great story to tell… it’s fitting that Miami, the world’s capital, hosts it.” In contrast, State Senator Shev Jones (D‑Miami Gardens) condemned the choice, arguing the site is a symbol of freedom for Cuban refugees. Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia dismissed the move as “hogwash,” claiming it reflects political opposition to Trump rather than any logistical concern.
The Trump family welcomed the decision. Eric Trump wrote that the library would become “one of the most beautiful buildings ever built, an icon on the Miami skyline.” Trump, who became a Florida resident in 2019, carried the state in the 2024 election by more than 13 percentage points.
The vote follows a statewide shift that moved authority over presidential libraries from local governments to the state, a change critics say amounts to preemption and raises concerns about proximity to the immigration landmark.
