lorida Power & Light has acquired nearly 350 acres of land in south Miami-Dade County, adjacent to one of its existing solar panel facilities. The company purchased the site between Krome Avenue and Southwest 187th Avenue, south of the Black Creek Canal, from various entities including EuroAmerican Group and Key International's Ardid family. The purchase price was $60 million, split into two deals.
The land is located outside the Urban Development Boundary, which restricts development in areas like farmlands and wetlands. FPL also owns a 465-acre solar panel facility nearby, which it acquired for $18 million in 2016. While it's unclear if the newly purchased properties will be used to expand FPL's solar power, the company is working towards relying on renewable energy sources by 2045.
As part of this effort, FPL has been acquiring large tracts of land in South Florida for solar farms. In recent years, it has bought over 1,300 acres in Palm Beach County and expects to install 30 million solar panels in Florida by the end of next year.
