redrik Eklund, a top broker at Douglas Elliman, has finalized his purchase of a downtown condo as the fast-selling development nears completion. The two-bedroom unit in the 28-unit building measures 1,400 square feet and cost $3.4 million, with a mortgage of $2.25 million. This brings the price per square foot to around $2,400.
Eklund's team made headlines last year for pushing out 24 contracts at the building in less than two weeks through an underground marketing campaign. His fellow team lead John Gomes also purchased a two-bedroom apartment at the time. The project, developed by Argo Real Estate and Bsafal, was acquired for $30 million in 2019 after some pandemic-induced delays.
Construction began in 2021 with a construction loan from Fortress Investment Group. The building's design is by KPF, while Danish firm Space Copenhagen handled the interiors. Eklund has added to his portfolio elsewhere recently, purchasing an Austin penthouse condo for over $2 million and leading sales at the Intracorp development in Texas, slated for completion in 2027.
"I think it's essential to show skin in the game," Eklund said of the purchase, which marks his first Manhattan luxury property deal since selling his Tribeca loft for over $5.6 million in 2018.
