A
tropical oasis is coming to the heart of Manhattan. Grupo Gitano has signed a lease for a 14,000 square-foot theme restaurant and club at Pier 17, marking the first major deal by Seaport Entertainment Group (SEG), the property's new owner.
Located on two levels with stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Gitano will offer a unique fusion of jungle vibes, sophisticated design, and exclusive dance club experiences. The US flagship location will evoke the spirit and modern luxury of Tulum, Mexico, with a giant disco ball suspended from its 30-foot-high ceiling.
Gitano isn't new to New York; it had a popular summer pop-up in Soho before moving to Governors Island. This new indoor-outdoor space will replace Koko's Pearl Alley bar area and become the crown jewel of Pier 17, which is home to other notable tenants like Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Fulton and Andrew Carmellini's Carne Mare.
Seaport Entertainment Group took over the entire Seaport last summer after being established as a publicly-traded company. The complex includes the Tin Building food emporium, historic buildings with stores like McNally Jackson Books, and various recreational attractions.
Grupo Gitano CEO James Gardner said the new location will blend the energy of New York with the laid-back luxury of the Yucatan. Seaport Entertainment CEO Anton Nikodemus praised Gitano's "blend of nightlife, entertainment, and Mexican-inspired food and cocktails."
